Originair begins flights direct

Palmerston North welcomed the arrival of Originair’s inaugural flight to the City from Nelson today.

A ceremony held at Palmerston North Airport marked the first direct Originair flight from Nelson which landed at 10:40am this morning.

Business and regional leaders joined staff from Originair and Palmerston North Airport for a special morning tea and red carpet welcome.

Palmerston North Mayor Grant Smith says the new flights “will be much welcomed and make access to Nelson and the South Island much easier for businesses as well as residents”.

“Regional travel is important for Palmerston North and provincial New Zealand. Originair is bringing jobs to the region as well as choice for air travel customers. It is great to see new companies like Originar seeing opportunities in Palmerston North, the Manawatu and wider region for regional growth,” he says.

Originair will run two, twin-turbo prop pressurised 19-seat British Aerospace Jetstreams between the two centres and employ a team of 20 experienced staff between the two locations. New airport check-in counters have also been built for the service.

The website and reservation system is now live. For those wishing to book their flights today you can at www.Originair.nz.
