New chair and members announced for Auckland City Centre Advisory Board
The Auckland City
Centre Advisory Board (ACCAB) has voted Kate Healy, Chief
Operating Officer of Ngati Whatua Orakei, Whai Rawa Limited,
as its new chair. Barbara Holloway, Karangahape Rd Business
Association chief executive, was elected deputy chair.
The board represents business, professional and community interests across the city centre. It advises on the programme of projects funded by the City Centre Targeted Rate - an additional levy of approximately $20 million a year collected since 2004 from businesses and residents within the city centre. The city centre is defined as the area between the waterfront and the motorway ring.
“Auckland’s city centre is facing a period of unprecedented and exciting change,” new chair Kate Healy says. “The major projects and private developments will cause disruption but will, ultimately, deliver a more mature and better connected city.
“The ACCAB is an important touchstone for the council, providing feedback to the council group on the proposed work programme and its impact on those who use the city on a day to day basis – the residents, the workers, the business owners, the students and educators, and tourists. It also has the ability to direct the spend of the city centre targeted rate in a way that enhances Auckland’s liveability.”
