Changes to gambling venue policy
Changes to gambling venue policy
A review of Council’s Gambling Venue policy will be available for the public to have their say starting on Saturday 26 September.
The Gambling Act (2003) & the Racing Act (2003) require the policy be reviewed every three years.
“Minor changes have been made since the last review in 2012, to better reflect changes in the Gambling Act and in our current conditions,” says Strategic Planning Manager David Wilson.
These small changes include:
- criteria saying where TAB and pokie machine venues can set up, or relocate to.
- a cap on the number of TAB venues in the district at the current number.
The sinking lid clause and decision guidelines remain the same.
The approach taken in reviewing the policy is consistent with the approach taken by other local councils around New Zealand.
The proposed policy document and submission forms are available from Customer Services in Fitzherbert Street and Te Puia, the HB Williams Memorial Library and online at www.gdc.govt.nz/ .
Submissions close 4pm Tuesday 27 October 2015.
