Te Aro’s inner city street fair is back

The Tennyson Street Fair, now in its fourth year, is returning to Te Aro on 18 October and organisers say this year’s event is set to be the best yet.

After needing to expand to meet demand in 2014, 2015’s event sold out for vendors weeks in advance. Attendees are set to be treated with a wider variety of food and market stalls, along with several artists and local artisan manufacturers selling and promoting their wares.

An estimated 4-5,000 people attended in 2014 throughout the day, which has established the event as one of the first must attend options on the Spring calendar.

In addition to market and food stalls, the Fair also features two stages showcasing a variety of acts beginning at 10.30am and going right through until the end of the day at 4.30pm.

Bouncy castles, a petting zoo, merry-go-round, ferris wheel, mini hot rods, a horizontal bungy, and a 10D cinema round off the day of entertainment for the whole family.

Thanks to support received from the Wellington City Council, the Fair is seeing greater promotion, and with a wide reach through social media an even larger crowd is expected in 2015.

Created by local church, Elim International Church, the Fair is seen as a great way of creating community in inner city Wellington, and previous years have also included community workshops, challenges, and fundraising opportunities.

The Tennyson Street Fair runs from 10.30am – 4.30pm on Sunday 18 October, with a postponement date of 25 October in case of inclement weather.
