Palmerston north Rescue Helicopter Weekly Roundup 5-10 Oct


The Palmerston North based Rescue Helicopter flew a total of 9 missions, transporting 11 patients, and conducted Hoist training with the Palmerston North Police Search and Rescue Squad during the period as follows;


Mon 5 A mid afternoon mission to Kakatahi for a Raetihi man in his 80’s suffering a serious medical event. He was airlifted to Whanganui Hospital.

Tues 6 A mid day call out to Taihape for a local woman in her 50’s injured whilst mustering sheep. She was flown to Whanganui Hospital. Later that afternoon the helicopter was dispatched to Mount Ruapehu for an injured skier.

Wed 7 An early morning Police search task for a missing boy at Waitarere Beach. Later in the afternoon the helicopter was dispatched to Mt Ruapehu for an injured skier. During the early evening a local speedway driver, with serious burns following an accident at the Palmerston North speedway track was flown to Hutt Valley Hospital for specialist emergency treatment. This mission was completed with the crew using Night vision Goggles.

Fri 9 An early afternoon callout to Mt Ruapehu for two injured snowboarders. A Feilding man in his 40’s and a 12 year old Wanganui boy, were both flown to Whanganui Hospital.

Sat 10 A mid morning mission to Matahiwi in the Wanganui River Valley, for a Waikato man in his 50’s injured in a fall over a bluff whilst deer hunting. Later that afternoon two injured skiers and a snowboarder, from Hamilton and Tauranga, were airlifted from Mt Ruapehu to Whanganui Hospital in one sortie.
