At the national launch of the Young Farmer Contest, Deputy Chairman of Ravensdown Stuart Wright, paid tribute to all those who have entered, judged and supported the celebration of young farming over the years.
The farmer-owned co-operative is celebrating 30 years of sponsorship for the contest and is again supporting the AgriSkills challenge.
“The future of New Zealand farming rests very much with the skills and enthusiasm of the younger generation. The Agri-Skills Challenge is a perfect platform to test the determination, insight and problem-solving skills of today’s young farmers,” said Stuart.
Twenty of the past winners of the contest have been Ravensdown shareholders.
“In the 30 years that Ravensdown has been sponsoring the contest, several entrants have gone on to become industry leaders and mentors for the up and coming generations. We’re proud to have helped the best and brightest of young farming shine across three decades,” concluded Stuart.
The co-operative is launching a “Thir-Tee years of young farming” design-a-T-shirt competition to celebrate its 30 years of sponsorship. The most popular design as voted on facebook, will be printed off for attendees at the national final in Timaru next July.
Terry Copeland Chief Executive at New Zealand Young Farmers believe it is so rare to have sponsorship deals in place for 30 years. “As one of the cornerstones to our sponsor family, it is a great occasion to mark the phenomenal support and partnership with Ravensdown,” said Terry.
“The natural synergy between Ravensdown and New Zealand Young Farmers continues to bear fruit, showcasing excellence and the great talents and skills within the agricultural sector,” added Terry.
