Delays possible as road works continue in the Bay of Plenty

Bay of Plenty motorists are advised to drive with care and allow extra time when travelling next week as road maintenance and rock fall prevention work continues.

Speed restrictions and other traffic management will be in place on roads around the region from Monday.

Sites where delays of between five and 15 minutes are possible are detailed below to allow people to plan ahead when travelling.

SH29 Kaimai Range – weather-activated speed signs trial

The weather-activated speed signs will go live from Monday 2 November at 9.00am.

SH29 Omanawa Bridge inspection

Lane closures and stop/go traffic management will be in place on Monday 2 November between 11am to 4pm during a routine bridge inspection. Drivers should allow an extra five to 10 minutes when travelling this route.

SH2 Waioeka Gorge– rock fall prevention work

Stop/go traffic management and 30km/h speed restrictions will be in place from 8am until 4pm each day next week while contractors carry out rock fall prevention at a site through the Waioeka Gorge.

Motorists are advised to allow an extra 10 minutes when travelling on this route.

SH29A Maungatapu underpass – new temporary lanes and new site entrance

Temporary lanes on the Maungatapu roundabout are in place to allow contractors to begin building the western bridge for the underpass.

Next week a new site entrance from Turret Road above the Hairini Street connection will be built, and new temporary line marking and safe hit posts will be put in place.

Temporary traffic management will be used throughout the week and motorists are advised to drive with care through the site while they get used to the changes.

SH36 Rotorua to Tauranga

Speed restrictions and lane closures will be in place on several sites along this route this month as workers install fibre optic cables. Drivers should allow an extra 10 minutes travel time. This work is expected to continue through to late December.
