Avalon Park playground transformation begins

Work is due to begin on Avalon Park’s highly-anticipated playground, as the development enters stage two in mid-November. Council has engaged Hawkins Group to construct the new destination playground, due for completion in May 2016.

The second stage will see the construction of a comprehensive play area designed for a range of ages featuring an under-five play area, an adventurous play area for older children and an all-ages water area.

Lower Hutt Mayor Ray Wallace says, “This is a fun and inspiring project that will see this playground transformed into a destination for imaginative play and discovery.”
“Its contemporary style will be a unique drawcard that will continue to attract more and more families from around the region.”

During the construction period there will be no access to the playground, however other park facilities such as the Lions Train, paddle boating and the learner bicycle track will still be available to be enjoyed by the community.

School holiday fun at Avalon Park

Lower Hutt’s favourite playground may be closed for construction, but we’ve got you covered with the School’s Out Avalon programme.

Grab the kids, a good book and a hat, and head on down to Avalon Park for three hours of free fun in the sun every weekday!
Activities are designed for kids aged 6-13 and run 1-3pm weekdays, 21-24 December 2015 and 11-29 January 2016. No registration required. Activities will go ahead in fine weather only.
