Community Action Protest Meeting over Quarry Development
Three Kings Community Action Protest Meeting over Fletcher Quarry Development
The Three Kings community opposed to Fletcher’s intensive housing development in its old quarry on Mt Eden Rd will decide on their next move at a public meeting on Tuesday, December 1.
The meeting will be held at the Three Kings Primary School Hall at 7.30 p.m.
Organisers are confident of a large turnout following a protest meeting last July at which 255 people voiced their disapproval at the design and size of the development. About 1500 homes are planned for the site.
Auckland Council’s development committee voted earlier this month to proceed with a land swap and private plan change which will enable Fletchers to proceed with their proposal, which includes 10-storey apartment blocks.
Mr Garry Bryant, president of Three Kings United Group, says the agreement is not yet a “done deal”.
Local community groups say they are likely to appeal to the Environment Court on the plan change.
The community is not against development of the site but are objecting to a number of issues including lack of sensitivity to the local environment especially the access and connectivity.
