Teenager rescued after life-threatening 100 metre fall
At 11:22am yesterday the Life Flight Trust received an urgent call-out to respond to a teenage male who had sustained potentially life-threatening injuries after falling more than 100 metres down the side of a steep hill whilst walking the Deliverance Cove track near Castlepoint.
Life Flight responded in the Westpac Rescue Helicopter. The on-board paramedic assessed the patient as having serious injuries and decided that immediate evacuation was needed.
Due to the location, the only option was to utilize the rescue winch on the Helicopter.
High winds and turbulence caused by the surrounding hills and peaks made for challenging winching conditions.
Once on-board, the patient was flown to Wellington Hospital's Emergency Department for urgent treatment.
