Retreat of the road cones for Christmas in Queenstown

14 December 2015 | NZ Transport Agency - Southern Region

Retreat of the road cones for Christmas in Queenstown

Queenstown people used to detouring at Frankton onto Glenda Drive and the Eastern Access Road off State Highway 6 are in for a change from Wednesday, 16 December.

The new SH6 Eastern Access Road roundabout will be fully operational, with the last patch of asphalting on Tuesday, 15 December, and drivers will be able to remain on the state highway.

• The current temporary 30 & 50km/h speed limit through the Glenda Drive road work to the Queenstown Events Centre will be lifted and largely return to the permanent 80km/h speed limit. (See map below)

• The old Glenda Drive will be closed while it is reconstructed. This will be completed in the New Year. There will be temporary signage to direct people to Glenda Drive and Placemakers, via the Eastern Access Road.

• There will be a short section of temporary 50km/h speed limit on SH6 adjacent to Placemakers at the old Glenda Drive, as this work will be completed in the New Year.

• All trafficked sections of road will be sealed over the Christmas to New Year period.

Meanwhile, the new Shotover Country roundabout at Stalker Road is also almost complete with asphalting this week (14 December). It will be operational next week, soon after the new SH6 roundabout at Eastern Access Road opens, in time for Christmas.
