No to independent
review
A motion for an independent review of the information and decision to rebuild Council's Fitzherbert Street administration complex was debated at the meeting of Council yesterday afternoon.
Councillors reviewed an information pack that included the reports and decision-making process dating back to 2011.
Councillors considered the need for an independent review and what the potential cost and timeframe implications of a review process would be.
Following these discussions, the motion was defeated by 9 votes to 5.
The majority of councillors were clear that the information and decision-making process had been robust and transparent. They were confident their decision to select the rebuild option was logical and the best long-term outcome.
At this time the relocation of staff from Fitzherbert Street to temporary offices in the CBD, and the demolition and rebuild of the new administration centre on the same site, will continue as planned.
The information package about the rebuild project is available on Council’s website.
