Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter weekly round-up 7-14 Feb
A busier period with 12 missions and a training
sortie through the week as follows;
Sun 7 An evening mission to the Rimutaka Forest Park for a German tramper in his 50’s with internal injuries following a fall. He was airlifted to Wellington Hospital in a serious condition with the mission finishing around mid-night.
Mon 8 Early afternoon call-out to Pongaroa for a local woman in her 40’s suffering a medical condition. Followed by an early evening mission to the Ruahine ranges where a woman in her 40’s had suffered an ankle dislocation. Both patients were flown to Palmerston North Hospital. Later that evening a crew Night Vision Goggle training sortie was conducted locally.
Tue 9 An early morning call-out to Toaroa Junction, east of Taihape, for a local man suffering a serious medical event. Sadly he was not able to be saved. Later that night a mission to Ohakune for a honeymooning American man in his 20’s, suffering a medical event. He was airlifted to Palmerston North Hospital in a stable condition, along with his Bride.
Wed 10 An evening call-out to Kokatau, near Carterton, for a local man in his 20’s who had been run over by a motor vehicle. He was airlifted to Wellington Hospital with multiple serious injuries.
Fri 12 Assisting with the Police Search for an abducted 5 year old girl. Followed by an early evening mission to the Ruahine Ranges, near Iron Bark Hut, where a man in his 60’s had been fishing and was struck by loose rocks that had fallen down a slip. He was flown to Palmerston North Hospital in a stable condition.
Sat 13 An early morning call-out to a fatal two vehicle accident at Kaitoke, near Whanganui. One patient, a local man in his 20’s was airlifted to Palmerston North Hospital with multiple injuries. Later in the afternoon the helicopter responded to a Police call to Akitio, on the East Coast, where a free diver was missing. He was found by a local helicopter operator but sadly had not survived. Whilst returning to Palmerston North the helicopter was redirected again to Toaroa Junction where a Te-Puke man in his 60,s had suffered injuries when his quad bike rolled. He was airlifted to Palmerston North Hospital in a stable condition.
Sun 14 An afternoon mission to Levin where a local man in his 20’s had suffered injuries when he hit rocks whilst diving into a river. H was flown to Palmerston North Hospital in a stable condition.
