Update on New Regent Street buildings

Christchurch City Council staff today (Friday 26 February) met with the owner of five properties on New Regent Street that have been classified as dangerous and earthquake prone.

The owner also brought engineers to the meeting.

An agreement has been reached between the Council and the owner that a detailed engineering assessment will begin on Monday (29 February).

The engineers engaged by the owner are experienced in dealing with heritage buildings.

This latest step gives the Council confidence the owner is committed to resolving the safety issues with the buildings.

Council staff will provide further updates next week once further discussions have been held with the owner and the engineers.
