Speakeasy Toastmasters Public Invitation to Open Demonstration

Speakeasy Toastmasters Club is holding an open demonstration. On Tuesday 8 at Knox Church Hall, 449 George Street, Dunedin. All Dunedin public is warmly invited.

Toastmasters is an international organisation designed to provide a non-threatening and supportive environment for improving individual's communication skills. The programs and tasks are structured to improve your speaking confidence, be it one on one or when speaking to a group. For example, when introducing yourself, or when you are at a job interview, or when making a speech or giving a factual presentation. You can practice a future speech or presentation at one of our Speakeasy meetings. Toastmasters programs also include leadership and listening skill training.

Speakeasy Toastmasters empathise with people who get anxious in public situations. Week-by-week, noticeable improvements occur.

Ms Shae MacMillan used to feel shy. Now she appears often at public events, as a result of attending Toastmasters.

“One year ago, in my wildest dreams, I’d never have imagined myself today. I joined Speakeasy Toastmasters because I was looking for a new hobby. Moreover, being on stage made me tremble. However, after becoming a Toastmaster I raise my hand more often and feel more confident. I surprised myself winning Speakeasy’s impromptu speaking contest. My next aim is to place in the prepared speeches contest.”

Speakeasy Club President, Allison Brown also uses her Toastmaster skills every day. She’s proud of how members discover their inner strength.

“Toastmasters has helped make me a better leader. My experiences at Toastmasters has given me the confidence to lead a team by providing the core leadership skills necessary to be inclusive, organised and supportive. Through Toastmasters I have been privileged to be able to support others in also becoming better leaders.”

Speakeasy Toastmasters Club meets regularly. Every Tuesday night at 5.30pm – 7.00pm. Their meeting room is in Knox Church Hall (behind the church) at 449 George Street. Look for the sign.
