Roading contract out to tender

Roading contract out to tender

It’s a big job, but somebody’s got to do it.

Queenstown Lakes District Council is inviting tenders for maintaining all of its roads and bridges for up to 10 years.

The contract has just been released to market, and covers 830km of sealed and unsealed roads across the district, including the Crown Range – New Zealand’s highest alpine pass – and 97 bridges. Just over half of the roading network is sealed.

QLDC Chief Engineer Ulrich Glasner said the contract represented the single largest area of infrastructure maintenance in the district. The work includes keeping the roads clear of snow and ice over winter.

He said the initial term of the contract was likely to be for four years six months, with two possible extensions, each of up to three years.
