Mayor outlines need to address community safety issues

Dunedin (Sunday, 6 March, 2016) Dunedin Mayor Dave Cull has announced the Dunedin City Council will take a lead in addressing the issues highlighted by the collapse of the balcony on Castle Street on Friday night.

“Enough! This has brought to a head already grave concerns about the safety of students and others in the Dunedin community and the consequential serious risk to both the city’s and the University of Otago’s reputation.“

“The DCC is not responsible for the situation, but in conjunction with the University, Police and other agencies must take ownership of solutions.”

Mr Cull says he wholeheartedly shares the concerns about behavioural issues in North Dunedin expressed by a wide range of people in the community.
