Hawke’s Bay records another great month for visitor nights
Statistics New Zealand has released their latest Commercial Accommodation Monitor (CAM) report for January 2016 arrivals and it revealed a fantastic result for Hawke’s Bay’s tourism industry.
January 2016 in comparison to January 2015 showed a 13% increased in visitor nights, totalling 163 790 in actual figures (January 2015 totalled 144 996). That increase was made up of a leap in both Domestic and International visitor nights. International visitor nights rose a whopping 20.9% to 41,357 with domestic visitor nights recording a 10.5% increase, totalling 122 433. The overall occupancy rose from 50% to 58.9%.
The best performing sectors within the Commercial Accommodation Monitor shows Hawke’s Bay Hotels were up 31.3%, Motels up 6.9%, Backpackers 20.2% and Holiday Parks 13.8%.
Hawkes’ Bay along with Canterbury, Rotorua, Queenstown and Auckland were New Zealand’s best performing regions, recording the largest guest night increases year on year.
Annie Dundas, General Manager of Hawke’s Bay Tourism said she was ecstatic with the result. “We know Commercial Accommodation nights are just one part of the puzzle but it is fantastic to see such a positive result in this sector. We’ve had anecdotal feedback from tourism operators that they are having a boomer summer but it’s great to have it confirmed”.
