SH2 between Dive Cres and Chapel St CLOSED due to serious incident: delay travel if possible

The NZ Transport Agency advises motorists that a section of State Highway 2 (SH2) between Dive Crescent and Chapel Street in Tauranga is CLOSED due to a serious incident.

A pedestrian has been struck by a truck and emergency services are at the scene.

The road is expected to be closed for some time which will have a major impact on traffic in Tauranga this morning.

The closure is affecting westbound traffic travelling into the city from Papamoa and Mount Maunganui along Hewletts Road.

All of this traffic is being detoured onto Dive Crescent and will entering the CBD area via The Strand.

Traffic is already backing up and the Transport Agency urges motorists to consider delaying their travel if possible.

People can get information on road works and detours in the region they are in, or travelling to by checking www.nzta.govt.nz/summerjourneys , by calling 0800 444 449 or following the Transport Agency on Facebook or Twitter.

Bay of Plenty travellers can also go to www.drivelive.nz/tauranga , a dedicated website that tells drivers what the current travel times are to get to key places.
