Community Service Awards now open for nominations
This year's Community Service Awards - recognising people who volunteer to make our communities better places to live - are now open for nominations.
The annual awards are this year available from Hagley-Ferrymead, Fendalton-Waimairi, Riccarton-Wigram and Spreydon-Heathcote community boards. Each community board considers nominations and awards the most deserving people.
In addition to the Community Service Awards, Youth Service Awards are presented in Riccarton-Wigram and Spreydon-Heathcote. These recognise significant voluntary service by people aged 25 years or under living in those wards.
Christchurch City Council's General Manager of Customer and Community, Mary Richardson says, "There are a countless number of people who volunteer to serve their community, often without reward. It is important that their hard work and unstinting support is recognised."
"We want to hear about those special people who have made outstanding contributions in their community organisations, clubs and societies. The only way we hear about these people is through nominations," she says.
"Whether they've been a long-serving coach for a children's rugby team or lead a team caring for a community garden, these people all contribute to building better communities."
