Environment Canterbury wins 2016 ALGIM GIS Project of the Year Award

Environment Canterbury has been awarded the 2016 ALGIM GIS Project of the Year award for their Matrix of Good Management Farm Portal. Ryan Elley, Software Developer GIS for Environment Canterbury, received this award on behalf of the local authority last night, Monday 11 April, at the 2016 ALGIM GIS Awards in Auckland.

The ALGIM GIS Project of the Year Award recognises and celebrates best practice, innovation and technical leadership in GIS (Geographic Information Systems) amongst New Zealand Local Authorities.

The judges described this winning solution as an innovative and intelligent project, one that “highlighted the power of collaboration between science, policy and the end user.” They also commended Environment Canterbury for demonstrating how GIS technology can be used in a collaborative way to produce outstanding results.

ALGIM (the Association of Local Government Information Management) congratulates Environment Canterbury for this significant achievement.

Congratulations also go to runner up Northland Regional Council, for their use of GIS technology as part of the fight against Mediterranean Fanworm.

ALGIM has existed for nearly 40 years serving NZ Local Government ICT sector. Today ALGIM has 100% membership of all 78 Councils. It prides itself on best practice, collaboration and standards which are all ingredients to achieving its vision of creating a world class Local Government ICT sector.
