Press Release: EQC Joint Agreement Public Meeting

First public meeting since joint agreement signed with EQC

EQC Chief Executive Ian Simpson has been invited to the first public meeting since the signing of a joint agreement between Commission and an EQC claimants group.

Canterbury Claimants has organised a meeting to assist Canterbury earthquake claimants learn about, and understand, what the recent Declaratory Settlement between EQC and EQC Group Action might mean for them. The meeting is on Thursday, 12th May, from 7:00pm to 8:45pm, at the Transitional Cathedral.

Organiser and Canterbury Claimants spokesperson Melanie Tobeck-Bourke says the group is very keen for EQC to be involved.

“We are hoping EQC will work with us, either to present to the audience or provide information for us to present on their behalf. Many people would like to know the process EQC want them to follow,” she says.

At the very least Canterbury Claimants is hopeful that EQC will provide a handout for the meeting which includes a simple process graphic, a dedicated contact telephone number, a purpose-specific inquiry form, and response timelines.

Note: Canterbury Claimants is a group that was formed four years ago. Its purpose was, and still is, to organise public meetings, with the narrow brief of discussing insurance claimant issues resulting from the Canterbury earthquakes.

Those meetings have been highly successful, supporting many claimants, with numbers attending ranging from 300 – 700. Most of the meetings in the last two years have been held at the Transitional Cathedral. EQC have been invited to attend these meetings on a number of occasions, but to date, they have declined for various reasons.

The joint statement is relevant to anyone with settled or unsettled properties with EQC dwelling claims.

This public meeting aims to inform you of the joint statement/agreement reached and its implications for you and your property.
