Chamber welcomes restraints on spending
Business welcomes the signals today from Finance Minister Bill English that this year’s Budget will continue to practice restraint on spending so debt can be repaid and to allow for investment in a growing economy, says Wellington Chamber of Commerce.
Mr English was speaking to a pre-Budget lunch hosted by Wellington Chamber of Commerce and Deloitte at Westpac Stadium.
“This is what business wanted to hear – that the Government is maintaining its strong focus on the Business Growth Agenda by investing in the economy,” says Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive John Milford.
“We applaud anything that promotes a more productive and competitive economy that delivers more jobs and higher wages, and the Minister gave us clear signals today that that will be the main thrust of the Budget.
“Paying off debt and continued investment in health, education, police and other public services to support vulnerable people will also clearly be a focus, and that is very welcome as well.”
