Responding to the New Zealand Herald report that Auckland Council was advised of the cladding issues with the ASB Tower prior to the purchase becoming unconditional, Ratepayers’ Alliance spokesperson, Carmel Claridge says:
“Now we know the truth. Council simply did not investigate thoroughly enough to justify expenditure of $100 million of ratepayers' money. Ratepayers deserve a better standard from Council when it spends public money, particularly when Council itself is supposed to be setting the standards in the building industry."
“The Council was advised about the flaws, but decided to proceed anyway without proper investigation. No private investor in their right mind would do that.”
“We have been calling for greater Council accountability. Now ratepayers have 31 million more reasons to fight for change.”
