Further traffic to be moved onto newly realigned road at Brynderwyn Hills

Traffic will be moved onto another newly realigned section of State Highway One on the Brynderwyn Hills this week.

The NZ Transport Agency says the project to improve safety and resilience in the area is progressing well and the road is nearly complete through the middle section of the works.

Vehicles will be moved from the existing road to the newly aligned road starting from Wednesday 18 May.

Traffic will be used to help bed down the new pavement during daylight hours and will continue to use the old alignment during the night.

From June 1 vehicles will be moved permanently onto the new road.

The $18m NZ Transport Agency project on the north side of the Brynderwyns is improving safety for road users by widening the current road, removing tight corners and installing a wire rope barrier to separate north and southbound traffic.

The Agency’s Northland and Auckland Highway Manager, Brett Gliddon the safety measures will reduce the risk of crashes and minimise the impacts of vehicles crossing the centre line.

There will be speed restrictions through the traffic switch area, to keep motorists and those working in the area safe.

“We appreciate there will be some disruption for drivers while we carry out this work, but the final result will help make this stretch of the state highway safer and more resilient for all road users,” says Mr Gliddon.

Earthmoving is continuing on the middle section of the hill and weather permitting, this is expected to be completed in December, with the project on target to be finished before Christmas 2016.
