Drainage improvements to make SH1 Dome Valley more resilient
Drainage improvements to make SH1 Dome Valley more resilient
The NZ Transport Agency will soon be starting work to improve drainage to make State Highway 1 through the Dome Valley, between Warkworth and Wellsford, more resilient to high rainfall levels.
From Monday 22 May, contractors will install new drains to prevent water flowing down the rock face and onto the road. This will prevent damage to the road surface.
To minimise disruption to this busy section of State Highway 1 the work will begin after 3pm each day and continue through the night until 2am each morning.
Motorists should expect some delays with single lane closures and manual traffic control.
The work is expected to take ten nights to complete and is weather dependent.
Further work to make improvements to the road surface in the same area will be carried out next summer. The two work periods are being separated to minimise the disruption to customers.
The NZ Transport Agency apologises for any inconvenience caused and asks motorists to maintain a safe speed through the work site to keep workers safe.
