E Waiariki Purea Trust Announced Supreme Winner
Te Waiariki Purea Trust has won the Supreme Award at the 2016 Trustpower Rotorua Lakes Community Awards.
The Awards were announced and presented tonight (Wednesday 1 June) at a function at the Sir Howard Morrison Performing Arts Centre.
For winning the Supreme Award, Te Waiariki Purea Trust received a framed certificate, a trophy and $1,500 prize money. Te Waiariki Purea Trust now has the opportunity to represent the district at the 2016 Trustpower National Community Awards, which are being held right here in Rotorua and will be a great opportunity to not only showcase what voluntary groups right around the country have to offer – but what Rotorua has to offer too.
In total, Trustpower has given away over $5,000 to various community groups through tonight’s Awards.
Trustpower Community Relations Representative Emily Beaton says Te Waiariki Purea Trust seem to be everywhere you turn!
“These guys are walking the talk and getting stuck in all over the show! They’ve got the recipe that works. Rangatahi are out in the community, doing it all thanks to this trust, and they’re giving youth the opportunity to break down those barriers that are stopping them achieve some really great things.
One of my favourite parts of the work they do is getting rangatahi to essentially run the IM ReaL Breakaway holiday programme. It’s a win win for everyone involved and gives these kids and young adults something to strive for and something to be a part of and when they pull off an event like that – they see that hard work can be fun!
I can’t wait for this group to share
their story on a national stage, and it will be even more
special that the National Community Awards are being held
next year right here in their home patch.” says Miss
Beaton.
Te Waiariki Purea Trust also won the Education and Child/Youth Development category at tonight’s awards.
