Generation Zero congratulates Council on City Rail Link construction
Transport lobby group Generation Zero congratulates the Auckland Council on beginning the construction of the City Rail Link.
‘This long planned project is finally underway thanks to the tireless effort of Auckland Transport and Auckland Council who have fought for the CRL for years.” Says Auckland Director Leroy Beckett.
“The City Rail Link will transform how Aucklanders get around their city. It will massively lift capacity on our railway network, slash journey times from the west to the city, and allow increased housing density at town centres along all the rail corridors.” Beckett
“Today is a celebration that logic and reason will always overcome. Mayor Len Brown, and the members of the governing body, who supported this vital project from the beginning deserve our praise”
The Auckland Council Governing Body voted 14-6 in at an extraordinary meeting in December 2014 to pursue the construction of the City Rail Link despite the Government delaying funding until 2020.
“The CRL is the heart of a much needed rapid transport network in Auckland. But it can’t stop here. We need rail to the North Shore, rail to the airport, light rail in the isthmus, there is plenty left to do.”
