Chamber music and Storytelling by Patricia Grace
Music and Storytelling weave magic to tell moon's story for Matariki 2016 Next Week in Wellington
The moon and her many voices are
the focus of a special concert to mark Matariki in
Wellington in June.
Chamber Music New Zealand and the Wellington Museum have joined forces to present a family concert that weaves together the power of music and the written word.
Te Reo o te Marama – The Voice of the Moon is on Thursday 16 June at the Museum of Wellington City and Sea.
The one hour family-friendly event features acclaimed New Zealand author Patricia Grace weaving her storytelling magic accompanied by music performed by the Aroha Quartet, taonga puoro artists Warren Warbrick and Alistair Fraser, and Te Rau Taiohi Kapa Haka.
The music will be themed around Patricia Grace’s short Story Moon Story which is a re-telling of the legend ‘Rona and the Moon’.
Aroha Quartet first violinist Haihong Liu says the concert will be “filled with exploration, inspiration, imagination and creativity, combining storytelling, Maori traditional performing arts and a classical string quartet.
Taonga Puoro artist Warren Warbrick (Rangitane ki Manawatu) says this project brings chamber music and Maori kaupapa to new audiences in unexpected spaces. “It’s inspiring to work with highly skilled artists in a variety of artfoms.”
Te Reo o te Marama – The
Voice of the Moon is on Thursday 16 June at 6pm
and at 8pm at the Museum of Wellington City and Sea. Entry
