Enforcement contract goes to Armourguard

Whangarei District Council has finalised a joint procurement process with Kaipara District Council to award it’s Regulatory Services contract to Armourguard.

The work involves parking and by-law enforcement, dog control, noise control and swimming pool inspections.

A detailed process over the last six months involved parties lodging aRegistration of Interest in the contract followed by a more detailed Request for Proposal stage, after which the evaluation panel recommended to both Councils that the contract be awarded to Armourguard. Both Councils have approved the appointment.

When confirming the selection Whangarei District Councillors commented on the service Environmental Northland, Keith Thompson and his team had given to the community over the past 20 years.

Paul Dell, Whangarei District Council’s Group Manager District Living, noted that much of what the contractor deals with is enforcement and as such can be a thankless job.

“Through the tender process parties recognise that there is always the chance that the contract may be awarded to another party, however we all acknowledge the tireless work of ENL director Keith Thompson and his teamto address difficult situations to ensure that the community’s rules are met.”

Mr Dell said Armourguard will take on the role from Monday the 12thSeptember following a transition period involving the two Councils, Armourguard and ENL.

He noted that Armourguard will bring new systems to the role and have a range of experience throughout NZ with Regulatory Activities.

“We will now work closely with all parties to ensure the transition is assmooth as possible.”

Armourguard’s Regional Manager Warwick Taylor said Armourguard had been employing Whangarei people for many years and looked forward to the opportunity to grow its business, while maintaining continuity for customers.
