Environment Canterbury sets rates
Environment Canterbury today set its rates for the coming year, with a rise of 2.9% on last year’s rates.
This is lower than the rates rise signalled in the Council’s Long-Term Plan two years ago of 5.3%.
Commissioner David Bedford said the Council had listened to feedback from 119 people on the proposals put forward in the Annual Plan and had made some adjustments based on this, including reducing the proposed bus fare rise from 10% to just 2.5%.
Feedback was also received on the Council’s performance on water management, he said.
“Implementing the Canterbury Water Management Strategy is the Council’s top priority. This Annual Plan continues to fund the implementation of the plans and rules that will ensure water quality improves in the future,” Mr Bedford said. “It also funds the development and implementation of the programmes created by the region’s 10 zone committees.”
