Queenstown amongst first in the world to celebrate World Social Media Day 2016
(Thursday 30 June, 2016)
Queenstown, New Zealand, was one of the first locations in
the world to see the sun come up on today's World Social
Media Day, celebrated with a sunrise Insta-shoot from The
Remarkables ski area for four international social media
influencers.
Queenstown based influencer Trey Ratcliffe was joined by Bare Kiwi (Kyle Mulinder), Jason Charles Hill and Hello Emilie (Emilie Ristevski) at The Remarkables ski area to catch the sun rising on World Social Media Day, before taking in the excitement at the DB Export Dog Derby, and enjoying a helicopter flight from The Remarkables to a stunning scenic spot in Queenstown's mountains.
This afternoon the festivities continue with the sold out World Social Media Day Insta-meet and BBQ. The event, which is designed to be an educational workshop on leading social media practices, is part of the 42nd American Express Queenstown Winter Festival on this week.
More than 120 social media enthusiasts will sail across Lake Wakatipu on Southern Discoveries’ Spirit of Queenstown to Mt Nicholas High Country Farm to learn social media tips and tricks from the four reknowned influencers.
Trey Ratcliff (@treyratcliff), says he’s grateful to be in one of the most beautiful places on earth on World Social Media Day.
“To be in the snow and wild elements of Queenstown New Zealand, with so many other fun photographers is a dream come true!”
Jason Charles Hill (@jasoncharleshill), has been coming to Queenstown for the past five years and can’t stop coming back.
“I am so excited to be part of The American Express Queenstown Winter Festival this year! I‘m looking forward to sharing my photos with everyone”.
Meanwhile Emilie Ristevski (@helloemilie) loves to photograph Queenstown’s mountains and landscape.
“I’m super excited to be back in New Zealand, especially Queenstown because it’s such a beautiful place, and only three hours from home.”
Kyle Mulinder (@barekiwi), is stoked to be back in his winter home.
“It’s awesome to see The Remarkables open and charging, snow around, super photogenic, I think I’m going to have too many photos to share!”
The morning was documented with the #smdayqt and #queenstownlive hashtags lighting up social media feeds, and the activity is sure to continue into the evening.
