The Peoples Choice Councillors welcome today's announcement from Christchurch City Holdings Limited that Enable and its world class fibre infrastructure is to be wholly owned by Christchurch City.
Peoples Choice caucus leader Andrew Turner said "The commercial success that Enable is fast becoming is well recognised. Full ownership of this of this asset by the City is an excellent outcome, giving us control over both the economic and social benefits of this important and essential network".
Referring to the fact that Enable is not currently listed on the Council's strategic assets list, he said "The Enable network is a key part of the City's infrastructure and connectedness. The critical importance and long term benefits of this network, in addition to the obvious economic benefit to the city of 100% ownership, are all reasons why Enable should be relisted as a strategic asset. We look forward to the opportunity to consider and debate this issue when the report recently requested as part of the annual plan decision making process comes before council".
