ECT Trustees Appointed

ECT Trustees Appointed

Council reappointed retiring board member, Michael Muir, and have appointed former mayor W John Clarke to the Eastland Community Trust Board at the meeting of Council yesterday.

Mr Muir and Mr Clarke were selected to fill the positions of trustees retired by rotation.

Council has the role of selecting and appointing Trustees to ECT as set out by the Trust Deed.

The positions were advertised nation-wide in May 2016 seeking applicants who not only had business acumen, but could represent the community.

Mr Muir confirmed his interest to remain on the board, expressing a desire to continue to focus on providing value for the community and to work towards achieving a vision for economic development.

Mr Clarke replaces Richard Brooking, ECT Chairman on the board. Mr Clark’s experience in local government, charitable trusts and positions as director, most recently with the Eastland Group, has provided him strong understanding of community needs, governance, financial and business knowledge and an enhanced understanding of the district’s economic drivers and opportunities.

Five candidates were interviewed and considered in addition to the two retiring trustees seeking reappointment.

“We want to acknowledge the dedicated service to our community by retiring ECT chairman, Richard Brooking,” says, Rehette Stoltz, Deputy Mayor.

“Richard has been a valuable asset as trustee and chairman of the Trust and we wish him the best for his future ventures.

“We look forward to working alongside the Trust to maintain a vibrant Tairawhiti.”
