Greater Wellington chose “The Money” and “The Bag”

Greater Wellington chose “The Money” and “The Bag”

The Wellington City Mission has once again had a tremendous response to their annual Brown Paper Bag Appeal.

People from across Greater Wellington got behind the appeal this year, choosing to donate either funds or food – “The Money” or “The Bag” – to help people in need.

The Mission is delighted to announce that so far they have received approximately 1,690 bags filled with non-perishable food donations, worth an estimated $100,000!

“We want to extend our sincerest thanks to every individual, family, business and organisation who supported the Brown Paper Bag Appeal this year,” says Wellington City Mission CEO Michelle Branney.

“The funds and food raised through this appeal ensure The Mission’s Foodbank and Drop-in Centre can continue providing food parcels and hot meals for people in need. These services are essential during the cold winter months when increased costs such as power and healthcare can be crippling.”

The appeal is also a chance for The Mission to restock higher-priced items that are not donated often, such as washing powder, deodorant, marmite and peanut butter.

“We haven’t had these items available for a couple of months and we’re pleased to be able to provide these necessities again,” says Michelle.

Anyone who missed out can still give to The Mission at any time, by donating online or dropping off food. For more information, please visit wellingtoncitymission.org.nz.

Special thanks to Z Energy for hosting Brown Paper Bag food collection bins at sites across Greater Wellington for the month of June.
