Flooding and slips affecting Coromandel and BoP roads

Flooding and slips affecting Coromandel and Bay of Plenty roads

The NZ Transport Agency advises Coromandel and Bay of Plenty motorists to drive with extra care and expect delays today.

Flooding and slips are affecting a number of state highways around the region. Some roads have been closed and others are marginal and may close later today. Traffic management including 30km/h speed restrictions and lane closures are in place in some areas.

• A 100 metre section of State Highway 2 between Philip Water Drive and Lindemann Road, just north of Katakati is underwater and one lane is currently closed. Police are managing traffic through the site. Light vehicles are advised to use an alternative route such as SH27. 4WDs and trucks will be managed through the site but people should expect delays. The Transport Agency says the road will be closed between 9am and 10am today to allow a truck to be salvaged from floodwaters, and there is a possibility that due to the high tide the closure may be extended.

• State Highway 25 is closed just south of Whitianga due to flooding.

• State Highway 25 between the SH25A intersection and Tairua is closed due to flooding

• SH25a near Kirikiri Valley Road is down to one lane due to a slip. Stop/go traffic management and speed restrictions are in place.
