Bumper weekend ahead, says Chamber

Wellington retailers and the hospitality scene can look forward to a bumper weekend as the city hosts the Super Rugby final, says Wellington Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive John Milford.

“The Hurricanes deserve a sell-out crowd at the stadium after that great performance on Saturday, and that would mean a big weekend coming up.

“The final last year brought in millions of dollars to the city, and that’s likely to be repeated, even though it’s not another New Zealand team the Hurricanes are against.

“People from throughout the Hurricanes region are expected to come to town to help their team win, and let’s hope we can also welcome some who make the long trip from South Africa.

“On top of all the usual attractions of the city’s bar and restaurant scene there’s also the newly opened David Jones store – which was jammed with people all weekend – for visitors to check out.

“I expect this weekend to be worth a lot of money to the city.”
