The Auckland Ratepayers’ Alliance is welcoming Auckland Mayoral Candidate Phil Goff’s fiscal policy announced today, promising to keep average rate increases at a 2.5% annual maximum. Ratepayers’ Alliance Spokesperson Jo Holmes says:
“While 2.5% isn’t the 2% we’re promoting as part of our Ratepayers’ Protection Pledge, Phil Goff deserves credit for acknowledging that the next mayor is going to have to focus at delivering better value for money for ratepayers. So long as Mr Goff sticks to using petrol or congestion charging solely to replace the transport levy – and not as a sneaky way to hike what Aucklanders are forced to pay the Council – his proposals seem fair.”
“Mr Goff has responded to the Ratepayers’ Alliance campaign calling for a better deal and has provided more specifics than any previous candidate standing on a centre-left ticket. Ratepayers will welcome that.”
“Aucklanders are tired of a Super City Council that has focused on building an empire, rather than cutting costs. Our 16,000 members look forward to working with the next Mayor to make suggestions on how the Council can do more with less, cut waste and duplication, and find efficiencies.”
