Vic Crone challenges Goff to
debate the numbers
“Phil Goff’s agenda will hit Aucklanders hard in the pocket with higher rates and up to three new taxes," says Auckland Mayoral candidate Vic Crone.
“Mr Goff has finally released an agenda that shows he’s out of ideas, out of depth and out of touch. It also relies heavily on Government intervention so it’s not even policy he can deliver.”
Vic Crone says Goff’s agenda reveals why he has no credibility on fiscal policy.
“His record as a minister of wasteful spending speaks for itself and is now coming through loud and clear,” she says.
"Worse, it looks like it was written by, and for, Council staff and it underlines exactly why Aucklanders want fundamental change.
“After 30 years in Wellington it’s clear Phil Goff has no idea how to fix Auckland or even understand a balance sheet.
“I challenge him to front up and go head-to-head with me on the future of Auckland Council and its finances in a public debate at the Town Hall, not a ‘meet-the-candidates’ but a serious discussion on the key issues.
“Auckland needs a strong leader with a fiscally responsible plan that shakes up the Council culture and actually take the knife to wasteful spending. We can’t afford three more years of another Len Brown who won’t deliver.
“Goff’s agenda smacks of a career politician who is willing to make it up on the spot and do or say whatever it takes to win. He simply cannot be trusted.
“In stark contrast, I have 20 years of proven real world experience, I’ve been accountable for delivering projects on time and on budget, something this politician has never done.”
My plan is clear:
• Keep rates low by capping average rates
rises at 2% over 3 years,
• Cut at least $500m of wasteful spending, including a reduction in staff costs by 5-10%,
• Pay down debt faster.
“Auckland has
the chance to be a world-class city for all of our families
to enjoy. We need a leader who can deliver the real results
Aucklanders need, not just another unprincipled politician
looking for a retirement job."
