Steady rainfall continues in north Auckland and Great Barrier Island
Steady rainfall is continuing north of Orewa, and on Great Barrier Island, and a further 30-60mm of rain is expected to fall in the next six hours.
The area has already had 110mm of rain in the last 24 hours.
Auckland Civil Defence and Emergency Management is expecting more surface flooding, and is encouraging residents to avoid driving unless absolutely necessary.
Road closures are in place and localised slips have occurred.
Head of Emergency Management Operations Aaron Davis says more flooding and slips could occur.
“More flooding could occur over the next six hours and people should take extreme care while driving, and avoid all unnecessary travel.
“People need to be aware of rapidly rising rivers and streams and the potential for slips, and should not drive through flood waters.”
Auckland Civil Defence and Emergency Management is continuing to monitor the situation and is liaising with emergency services and MetService.
If you need help and there is a serious threat to life, phone 111.
