Lower Hutt a foodie destination for Wellington On A Plate
HUTT CITY COUNCIL NEWS RELEASE
18 August
2016
Lower Hutt is a foodie destination for Visa
Wellington On A Plate
With nine restaurants participating in this year’s Visa Wellington On A Plate festival, food lovers from across the country are already enjoying Lower Hutt hospitality.
The city’s popular monthly Thursday food truck evening will also be a feature, followed by a rally of even more of Wellington’s iconic food truck operators over Sunday and Monday.
Jackson Street in Petone is known across the region for its boutique specialty food suppliers and restaurants, and Eastbourne offers spectacular seaside views to accompany a delicious meal. Lower Hutt is also home to five coffee roasters, as well as brewers and award winning organic cheese makers.
Lower Hutt Mayor Ray Wallace says “It’s great for our city to be part of what is known by many as the ultimate food festival, and to have more restaurants taking part than ever before. We’re pleased at this chance to showcase some of our local businesses.”
“There’s something for all tastes, from family favourites at food truck rallies to set menus featuring surprising ingredients like black pudding and pig’s head!
“We’re also proud to help host the Hutt Food Lab Challenge, where adult-and-child teams will be working on culinary creations alongside some of our top food producers and restaurateurs. Of course, being Lower Hutt, we’ve also added a taste of science into the Challenge and GNS Science will be part of the fun.”
