Napier City Council staff are making every effort to assist during the water crisis in nearby Havelock North.
Tonight, Director City Services Lance Titter and Director Infrastructure Jon Kingsford have made provision for a stand pipe and tap to be available to anyone in need, beginning tomorrow morning (Friday 19 August) from 10am.
The pipe and tap, fitted with a double check valve to prevent any backflow into Napier’s water system, will be located on the ocean side of Marine Parade, between the National Aquarium of New Zealand and the Pump Track. Mr Kingsford says it will remain available until 5pm tomorrow evening and from 9am-5pm each subsequent day, as long as it is required, and he encourages residents of Havelock North and Hastings to bring their containers and bottles to be filled .
This week, the Council also deployed four of its
Community Services staff to Hastings District Council to
help with the workload.
Napier’s water supply is
unimpacted and the city’s water remains completely safe to
drink.
