The Auckland Ratepayers’ Alliance is welcoming comments by Mayoral aspirantsJohn Palino, Mark Thomas and Victoria Crone to abolish or merge ATEED into one of the other CCOs, following the Ratepayers’ Alliance exposure last week of the agency’s $29,000 junket to the Rio Olympics for two executives.
Jo Holmes, a spokesperson for the Ratepayers’ Alliance says, “No one voted for ATEED to set up an office in London and send staff around the world on ratepayer-funded jollies. Phil Goff’s refusal to speak out on this issue speaks volumes about his real intentions towards cutting bureaucratic waste. He doesn’t have any.”
“ATEED wheel out the excuse that all this travel leads to economic growth and opportunities. Ratepayers would find that more believable if they could actually point to those opportunities which apparently result from Council staff attending Rio medal ceremonies.”
