Mayoral Chicken Feud

Mayoral Chicken Feud

Auckland mayoral candidates were advised this afternoon that a planned episode of Family Feud, featuring the candidates, has been cancelled.

In an email sent at 4:15 pm today Catherine Roper, the producer of TV3's current affairs programme Story, advised that "We have had difficulties with candidates simply not being available and we can now confirm we don't have enough to be able to go ahead".

This was the third in a series of attempts to tape a Family Feud episode with Auckland mayoral candidates. Mayoral candidate David Hay has accused other candidates of chickening out.

"I can't imagine what they were thinking. This was a great opportunity for the people of Auckland and New Zealand to get to know the candidates; hear what they know about Auckland, and see how they interact with others." said Mr Hay.

"I had prioritised this debate over all others in the mayoral debate calendar, and I'm very surprised that all the others haven't done that too."

"I assume that one or more of the so-called leading contenders lacks confidence in their ability to perform in front of the television cameras, and that they've chickened-out.

"I'd really like to know which candidates are responsible. Because this calls into question their self confidence, their willingness to talk about the issues facing Auckland in front of a wider audience, and their commitment to increasing voter turnout in this year's local body elections." said Mr Hay.
