Community planting day at Linton Park East

Rotorua Lakes Council and volunteers from the community will be mucking in this weekend to replant a section of Linton Park in Rotorua.

The event being held at 1.30pm on Saturday 17 September coincides with Conservation Week and will see hundreds of new trees planted in the park.

Local real estate agent Maurice van Liempd has donated a dozen home-grown kauri for the event on Saturday.

“I’m very much a fan of green spaces in neighbourhoods. Thriving parks not only look nice but they also have a positive effect on people’s moods.

“Lots of my clients tell me they value parks like Linton because it provides their children with the ideal playground close to home.

“I’m sure the tree planting day will be a big success,” said Mr van Liempd.

There are 270 trees to be planted which include kahikatea, redwood, kauri and various fruit trees. They will replace the Eucalyptus trees recently felled in the park.

Anyone who is keen to participate is invited, so bring the whanau (family) along to help out. There will be a free sausage sizzle and a game of touch rugby from 3pm.

Event details:
· Please bring along a spade to help dig the holes for the trees and ensure you are wearing covered shoes or gumboots.
· Meet at the Central Rugby League’s clubrooms in the park off Edmund Road at 1.30pm.

During the afternoon there will also be an opportunity to provide ideas for the future development of the park.
