Have your say on the Gisborne rock lobster fishery
27 Sep 2016
The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) is
inviting local people and organisations to have their say on
the CRA3 (Gisborne) rock lobster fishery.
MPI is aware that some local recreational fishers are concerned that the male winter commercial size limit is allegedly affecting the availability of legal sized rock lobster over the summer, when commercial fishers currently do not operate as part of a voluntary agreement.
MPI's manager of Inshore Fisheries Steve Halley says, "In order to understand if any additional management changes are required for the CRA3 fishery – especially the area close to Gisborne City – we are seeking feedback to be considered along with the latest scientific research and compliance information.
"I would urge anyone interested in understanding the current management of this important fishery to come along to the drop-in session next week," he says.
A public information drop-in session will take place on Wednesday 5 October from 4.30pm until 7.30pm at the Emerald Hotel, 13 Gladstone Road, Gisborne.
Information posters explaining the situation will be on display and MPI staff will be available to answer questions.
People can email their feedback by 5pm on Friday 21 October.
