New Naming Sponsor Announced, Wellington Buggy Walk Series

New Naming Sponsor Announced for Wellington Buggy Walk Series

Sport Wellington has announced a new partnership in conjunction with their long running series of monthly buggy walks throughout the Greater Wellington region. Mitre 10 MEGA has been announced as the naming rights sponsor for the monthly community walks, as well as naming sponsor of the 6.5km Buggy Walk category as part of the iconic Cigna Round the Bays fun run.

Sport Wellington Event Director Anna Carrington says the partnership will bring an exciting and colourful dimension to the monthly walks as well as Cigna Round the Bays. “It’s fantastic to have an organisation like Mitre 10 MEGA come on board and sponsor these events. They have a real commitment to giving back to the community and we can’t wait to see the Buggy Walks continue to grow.”

Stephen Nelson, Chief Executive of the Mitre 10 MEGA is excited about the new partnership with Sport Wellington. “We are spread across the region with our business and the Buggy Walks programme is a great way to contribute back to the community, as well as to participate in the Cigna Round the Bays event itself. We are looking forward to getting started this summer!”

Mitre 10 MEGA Buggy Walks are a free event occurring on the first Thursday of every month. Organised by Sport Wellington since 2006, the walks take place at a different location every month, and will include one each starting at the Petone, Upper Hutt and Porirua Mitre10 MEGA stores, and aim to provide parents and caregivers with the opportunity to discover some of the many buggy friendly walking tracks throughout the Wellington region.

The inaugural Mitre 10 MEGA Buggy Walk will be held in the Wellington Botanic Garden on Thursday 6 October. This popular annual event inside the Garden is set to draw a large crowd as parents, grandparents and children gather for a picturesque walk alongside the blooming spring flowers. “It’s a lovely time of year at the gardens, we’re lucky to be able to provide our participants with such a beautiful environment to get out and get active with their little ones” adds Carrington.

The walk begins at The Dell area behind Begonia House before setting off to explore the surrounding gardens and bush tracks which loop back around to The Dell for more festivities including face painting, music and sausage sizzle. Participants are advised to arrive around 9.45am, with the walk set to take off at 10.30am. The event is free to attend with no registrations necessary, participants are encouraged to simply show up and enjoy the morning out.

Registration for the 6.5km Mitre 10 MEGA Buggy Walk as part of the 2017 Cigna Round the Bays event opens on 1st November 2016.
