Mapua residents, please conserve water

12 October 2016

Mapua residents, please conserve water (just for a couple of days more)

Mapua residents and businesses have been asked to think about what water they need to use as the area’s water system recovers. A problem with the main water pipe from the Waimea bores to Mapua has been repaired however, the system will need some time to recover as the reservoirs serviced by the pipe return to normal operating levels.

The system is a lot more complex than a pipe to every home and to work to its best there is a need for pressure in the system. Much of the pressure comes from a balance between the water coming into the system and the level held in the local reservoirs.

As a result of the recent break in the pipe the water held in the reservoirs was used to supply the system while the repairs were taking place. Now the pipe is repaired the system needs time for the reservoirs to be refilled.

To enable the reservoirs to refill as quick as possible we are asking Mapua people to think about their water usage for a couple of days. It will only take a couple more days for the levels to come back up and the system will be back to normal.
