Goff Urged to Draw Line under Brown Legacy
Goff Urged to Draw Line under Brown Legacy
19 OCTOBER 2016
The Ratepayers’ Alliance is welcoming reports that Auckland Mayor Phil Goff has
ruled out reappointing Penny Hulse as deputy, but is
urging Mr Goff to rule out appointing any of the “Terrible
Ten” who allowed Len Brown to hike rates by 9.9% last year
and breach an election promise.
Alliance spokesperson, Carmel Claridge, says, “This is Mr Goff’s chance to reach across the political divide and draw a line under Len Brown’s legacy of high rates and crippling debt.”
“If Mr Goff is serious about changing the culture of waste at Auckland Council, he should pick as his deputy a Councillor who signed the 2% Ratepayer Protection Pledge. That would send a very strong message that Mr Goff is willing to stand for ratepayers, and not just bureaucrats wanting to grow the Council’s empire.”
