Tasman District Council appoints new engineering manager
Richard Kirby has been appointed as Tasman District Council’s Engineering Manager following the resignation of Peter Thomson.
Richard is no newcomer to the region having worked closely with both Nelson and Tasman councils on a variety of projects, most recently with the Joint Landfill proposal and as General Manager of the Nelson Regional Sewerage Business Unit.
In these roles he has built strong relationships at both political and operational levels across the region, said Chief executive Lindsay McKenzie. “Add these attributes to his previous local government experience and Richard is a compelling and obvious choice to continue the legacy created in Peter Thomson’s time. His relationships, skills and proven professional record will be beneficial as we move to even more collaborative arrangements with our neighbouring councils. “
Richard Kirby said, the opportunity to work with the calibre of staff in the region and the breadth of challenges facing the fastest growing district in the country was enough to leave my own consultancy to take up this role.
“The fact that I know the District and wider region well, having attended Waimea College and still having family here, certainly helped in my decision and we are certainly looking forward to making Tasman our permanent base from now on.”
Richard Kirby will take up the role 23 January 2017.
